Contacts for Midwifery Educators

In Ontario, the Midwifery Education Programme is offered at three universities:

The programme leads to the degree Bachelor of Health Sciences (B.H.Sc.) in Midwifery.

 

The International Midwifery Pre-registration Program (IMPP) is a part-time bridging program. Through its 5 month accelerated stream and 9-12 month regular stream options for qualified candidates, it provides internationally educated midwives with the following:

  • Assessment of knowledge and skill competencies required for full scope midwifery practice in Ontario
  • Orientation to midwifery, primary care role, health care system and client centered continuity of care
  • Profession-specific language and communication assessment and enhancement opportunities
  • Individualized and accelerated learning opportunities for midwifery knowledge and skills enhancement
  • Required certification processes for NRP, Emergency Skills, Fetal Surveillance
  • 3 month full time on-call clinical placement with caseload in a community midwifery practice
  • Comprehensive written, oral and clinical assessment and opportunities for remediation
  • Mentoring, introduction to Ontario health care workplaces, support for registration and employment
