How to Find a Midwife

  1. By Name: Use either or both the first and last name of the midwife. If you are unsure of the correct spelling of their name, you may use the first three letters of their first or last name. This will result in a broader search.
  2. By Registration Number: Enter the Registration number (number only) of the midwife. The Registration Number should be entered without any spaces, dashes or any other punctuation.

Finding a Midwife

In order to ensure that the public interest is protected, the College sets requirements for registration as a midwife, maintains programs and standards of practice to assure the quality of practice by its members and has procedures for clients of midwives who have complaints or concerns about their care.

Only individuals who are registered with the College are authorized to practice midwifery and to use the title "midwife". There are several different ways to confirm that a midwife is currently registered with the College. Information is available through this web site's Public Register, or may be accessed by calling the College at 416 327 3132.

The College can provide the following information for each registered midwife:

  • name and work contact information
  • registration class and status
  • any conditions, limitation or restrictions affecting the member's registration

All midwives are required by the Informed Choice Standard to provide information about their educational background to their clients.

All registered midwives must display their current annual certificate of registration at their practice location and have available for inspection their current annual registration card.

Individuals may find a midwife in their area or confirm the registration and status of a practicing midwife. The College can not make referrals or recommendations.
