Midwives in Ontario must be registered with the College, and we use our registration process to ensure that those applying to become midwives meet all of our entry-to-practice requirements.
All midwives in Ontario must be members of the College, with the exception of Indigenous people who provide traditional midwifery services. They may use the title “Aboriginal midwife” or a variation, abbreviation, or an equivalent in another language and may hold themselves out as a person who is qualified to practise in Ontario as an Aboriginal midwife.
Following initial registration at the College, midwives are required to keep their membership up to date by renewing their registration annually, by October 1 each year. Read more about renewing your registration with the College here.
The Registration Regulation outlines the requirements that all midwives in Ontario must meet for their initial registration and to maintain their registration annually, and our Registration policies supplement the Regulation.
